Community initiative to halt expansion of the local Catalyst industrial waste dump.

Regional District Landfill position

Whilst I realise this is a completely different type of landfill. I thought this statement from a community letter in support of a new landfill at Ashcroft was significant. This letter was written by the PRRD to the GVRD in July 2006 and contains the following statement, "Reliance on the Cache Creek landfill for disposal of this residual waste is a necessity for the PRRD due to the lack of disposal facilities within our own jurisdiction. Our heavy rainfall, local topography, and rural households dependence on individual domestic wells or small community water systems, have precluded us from finding a landfill site that is environmentally and publicly acceptable,"
If this is so, why then would we allow a potentially toxic landfill to operate and EXPAND in such close proximity to a residential community.

Landfill expansion report

I would have posted this as a new topic, but was not able to do that for some reason.
Anyway, just wanted to mention the report is up on Catalyst's website, as of July 26th.

You're right

Thanks Fran for the heads up on that.

This would be a great letter to forward to Steffanie Warriner, the person at the MoE responsible for making the decision in this process.

I appreciate your taking the time to bring this to our attention!
