Dear Coby De Graauw:

Thank you for your letter of April 21, 2008 and July 18, 2008 regarding the proposed expansion of the Catalyst Landfill site in Powell River, BC. I apologize for the delay in responding.

Please be advised that as part of the adjudication process for the current landfill amendment application, the ministry's regional staff are reviewing all of the environmental concerns that you and other members of the public have raised about the landfill. In addition to evaluating both the technical merits of the application and the potential environmental impacts due to the proposed landfill expansion, staff are also considering specific allegations regarding historic storage and/or burying of transformers at the landfill site; the company's asbestos handling procedures and data monitoring and submissions requirements.

Please contact Mr. Jeff Fournier, A/Section Head, Environmental Management, Lower Mainland Region at 604 582-5261, if you have any further questions or concerns on this matter.
